Welcome to the Bournemouth Raiders
testimonial websiteThe team were established at
Bournemouth School for Boys in 1988 under the guise of the Bournemouth Deckchairs, and
played friendly matches throughout 1988 and 1989 against the local junior side, the
Bournemouth Bearcats (remaining undefeated).
In 1990, they formed into the Bournemouth Raiders and
entered the Junior American Football League's Southern Conference. In 1991, the team
reached the JAFL semi-finals after defeating their arch-rivals, the Eastleigh Devils, 8-6
in a thrilling wild-card match.
After a single friendly in 1992 against Worthing, the
Raiders remained dormant for 9 years until they entered the British Senior Flag League in
2001 with many of the old team returning. In 2002, the Raiders won the BSFL's 5man title
and also reached the 9man final against Leicester. The Raiders repeated their national
title win in 2004, before playing their last games in the 2006 season.
The Raiders played their home games at Meyrick Park,
Bournemouth. They wore silver pants and black shirts with white numbers, and were coached
over that 18 year period by Mark Elliott. |
