Doncaster Mustangs 27-13 Yorkshire Rams

The Doncaster Mustangs beat the Yorkshire Rams 27-13 in the battle for county bragging rights at the Tetley's Stadium.

Two rushing touchdowns from Mike Hibbert and Paul Tiggardine ensured Donny would beat the team they replace in Division One North in 2006.

The visitors scored on their first possession when quarterback Hibbert sauntered in from close range and Dave Oakley added the extras for a 7-0 Doncaster lead.

But a long kick-off return by the hosts set up a touchdown of their own on their first possession but the XP was missed.

However it was not long before Yorkshire did take the lead as running back Rob Tingle rumbled over to give the Rams a 13-7 advantage.

And the Dewsbury-based outfit could have extended their lead before the interval, twice driving into the Stangs red zone only, only to commit four turnovers.

The Mustangs recovered a fumble inside the five, Lee Walker made an interception while Chris Swinbourne also forced and recovered a fumble and gathered a muffed kick-off.

Tiggardine made the Rams pay for those errors as he rumbled 80 yards for a touchdown as the teams went into the interval level at 13-13.

Doncaster dominated after the interval with Hibbert scoring his second short-yardage score in the third quarter and after Mike Jenkins had blocked a punt to give the offense the ball inside the five, Tiggardine bulldozed in for his tenth six-pointer of the season.

Attention now turns to the home semi-final against either the Bristol Aztecs or the Nottingham Caesars on September 11 with the prize for the winner, a trip to the Don Valley Stadium for the Division 1A final a fortnight later.
