3rd October 2004

The Barbarians and the Bournemouth Raiders tied for top spot in the 3rd ESFL tournament of 2004 in Chichester, but it was the Barbarians who took the title with a superior points scored record.

Chichester Sharks 15-6 Barbarians

The Barbarians took an early 6-0 lead on the back of Ian McLean catch from 2 yards out from QB Adam Duffy, but the Sharks hit back on a safety and then took the lead through Nick Watson's bomb to Pete Steele. The Sharks sealed the win on Watson's pass to Neil Henderson who broke one tackle and ran in from distance.

Bournemouth Raiders 14-0 Bournemouth Deckchairs

In this battle of the two Bournemouth teams, it was the underdog Deckchairs who controlled things in the first half through the powerful running of Jon Parsons and the astute QB'ing of Martin Brown. 0-0 at half-time, but the Raiders took the lead straight after when QB Matt Heasman hit Nick Michael in the corner of the endzone where he made a clutch catch from 1 yard out to put the Raiders 6-0 up. On the next Deckchairs drive, Brown's pass was tipped and Tim Smith returned it for a score. Smith hit Heasman for the 2 PAT to give the Raiders a 14-0 win.

Bournemouth Deckchairs 6-14 Barbarians

Deckchairs took a surprise lead on Brown's pass to Jon Parsons who ran down the sidelines for the lead, but the Barbarians hit back on the back of Duffy's TD passes to McIntosh and Dayle Kirby. Both Barbarians TD's were converted by Jay Cashman.

Chichester Sharks 0-9 Bournemouth Raiders

In this battle between the two coastal clubs, it was Bournemouth who defeated the Sharks for the first time in 2 years with a dominant defensive display. On the Raiders second possession, they marched up field and scored on Heasman's pass to Nick Michael. The 1 PAT followed on Heasman's pass to Mark Elliott. The Raiders defense stood firm against the potent offense of the Sharks led by England international Nick Watson, and it was Elliott who sealed the win with a crucial sack of Watson for a safety near the end to give Bournemouth a 9-0 win.

Bournemouth Raiders 2-14 Barbarians

A fatigued Bournemouth side were outplayed by a superb defensive performance from the Barbarians, who dominanted this encounter. It was the Raiders who took a 2-0 lead on a fumble by QB Duffy, but he made amends shortly after by firing a TD to Justin Handley to give them a 7-2 halftime lead. The Barbarians extended their lead to 14-2 on Duffy's pass to Kirby, and their defense then snuffed out any hope Raiders had to close the gap as time expired.

Chichester Sharks 6-12 Bournemouth Deckchairs

The Deckchairs won their first ever game, with a victory at the death against the Sharks. Martin Brown put them 6-0 up on his pass to Vincent Gurrea, and they held their lead to half-time. With 8 minutes left, the Sharks drew level when Watson fired in his 3rd TD of the day. With seconds to go Brown launched a bomb downfield which was caught by Barnaby Kerr, and it was Kerr to caught the gamewinner as time expired from Brown.
