Sunday’s game saw the Cheetahs gain the British Senior League Division Two, South East conference title with an entertaining 22 - 17 win over visitors Kent Exiles.  It had looked like the Exiles were going to record the a win, when Gary Ead 19 yard field goal gave the Exiles a 17 - 16 lead with 1 .04 left in the game.  The Cheetahs were not going to give up that easily on their 100% record so far this season and with only 8 seconds left to play, Spencer Whybrow hauled in Rob Suttling’s pass in the end zone for a 22 - 17 Cheetahs win.

The Cheetahs had kicked off the game, and after gaining a first down, Kent were forced to punt.  Andy Cochrane gained a first down for the Cheetahs before the Kent defensive had ground and the Cheetahs punted. Late on in the first quarter, a bad snap by the Exile’s when punting gave the Cheetahs excellent field position, only for Kent’s Michael Turner to intercept Rob Suttling on the 1 yard line. On the next play, Darron Mayhew and Frank Mayo combined to tackle the Exiles running back in the end zone for a safety, and give the Cheetahs a 2 - 0 lead. Ally Reid’s 58 yard return on the kick-off put the Cheetahs back into Kent’s half of the field, but with a short run by Cochrane and three incomplete passes turned the ball over on downs.  Rich Strub soon had the ball back for Chiltern, when intercepting Kent’s Matt Duncan, but again no advantage was gained by the offence, with the half ending on Eddie Wells sack of Duncan. (2 - 0).

The third quarter was much the same as the first half with both sides  able to gain one or two first downs before the opposing defences halting the drive.  Stewart Muir got into the end zone on a short run for the Exiles, only to have to score cancelled out by a penalty.  With Darren Whybrow that sacking Duncan for a 12 yard loss and moving the ball further back, before turning the ball over on downs. Michael Turner intercepted a his second pass from Suttling on Chiltern next drive to set up the Exiles first score of the game, when Matt Duncan found Alex Campbell in the end zone to take the lead.  Gary Ead kicked the extra point (2 - 7).  The Cheetahs offence drove the ball down field on their next possession, which ended on the last play of the quarter with Andy Cochrane’s 2 yard touchdown run, with Suttling finding Spencer Whybrow on a pass for the 2 point conversion (10 - 7). This was the start of the second half see saw battle as Stewart Muir touchdown run on the Exiles next drive, with Ead adding the conversion handed the lead back to Kent (10 - 14). Good running by Abdul Lawal set up Spencer Whybrow 10 yard touchdown catch from Suttling (16 - 14).  On the Kick-off a great return by Roy Hall was halted by kicker Martin Homer tackle> The exiles picked up a couple of first down’s with Stewart Muir 15 yard screen catch putting the exiles inside the 10 yard line.  Solid defence denied the Exiles making it into the end zone with Nick Michael almost intercepting a Matt Duncan pass.  Gary Ead then slotted away a 19 field goal with 1.04 left in the game to give the Exiles a 1 point lead (16 - 17).  A short kick was received by Darron Mayhew, who’s lateral of the ball to Andy Crowther help gain possession a the half way line.  Then Rob Suttling completed two first down passes to Conrad Patrick and a penalty by the defence moved the ball to the 11 yard line, where Spencer Whybrow collected his second touchdown pass of the game and hand the Conference title and a place in the play-off’s to the Cheetahs.

Head Coach Len Scott, named Whybrow as Cheetahs offensive MVP, with Defensive Coach Pat Joseph awarding the defensive MVP to Owen Thomas (13 tackles) and Rich Strub (9 tackles and an interception).
