20th June 2004 BSL Division Two Kent Exiles 8-29 Chiltern Cheetahs The Kent Exiles crashed to their third defeat of the season on Sunday to the undefeated Chiltern Cheetahs, and now face an uphill battle to match last years playoff appearance. The Cheetahs started the strongest, building up a comfortable lead by the end of the 1st quarter on a 22 yard pass and a 1 yard run, both extra points were made for the 14-0 lead, it was the Cheetahs power running game that was making the difference, as well as strong tackling by their defence. The Exiles defence started to find their feet in the second quarter, but Chiltern still extended their lead on 2 field goals and another 1 yard run to lead 26-0 at half time, three Chiltern interceptions killed off the Exiles hopes of pulling any scores back before half time. The Exiles offence continued to struggle all through the second half, but defensively the team stepped up and started to limit the Cheetahs, and their only further scoring was on a 4th quarter field goal. The Exiles did manage to find the end zone late on in the match, Roy Hall's 25 yard punt return followed by a 40 yard snag  by Grahame Warby from Matt Duncan led to Stewart Muir pounding in from the 6 yard line, Warby caught the 2 point attempt to bring the score back to 29-8, and avoid the shutout, this was only the second touchdown scored on the Cheetahs this season. Defensively the Exiles were led by Steve Collisons 14 tackles, and Eric Williams got MVP honours for his 8 tackles. After the game Exiles head coach Phil Wood commented, "We lost on Sunday because we made mistakes and we didn't fulfil our potential. We made some fundamental errors on Sunday, which is not good, but we know what we can do to put them right. This team never quit when we were getting beat every week and I am damn sure we aren't going to start quitting when we have the talent on the team we have now." The Exiles now have a five week layoff before travelling to Amersham to take on the Cheetahs again, with only a win being enough to keep the Exiles fading playoff hopes alive.
