The Exiles started brightest, putting together a short drive which ended in
Sabres territory following an interception. The Defence then held the Sabres
immediately to give the ball back to the hungry Exiles offence. Lee Nash
finished a good drive with a jinking 11 yard run into the endzone, and Mat
Tompsett tagged on the point after to give the Exiles a 7-0 lead. The second
quarter saw much of the same, the Exiles defence halting the Sabres
consistently, whilst the offence pounded away and ate up the yardage towards the Sabres endzone. The Exiles second touchdown came courtesy of Rob Williams the veteran Exiles scoring his first touchdown of the year on a 3 yard run. Tompsett again kicked the point after for a 14-0 lead at the half.

A turnover on their own 18 yard line early in the second half saw the Sabres
gifted an opportunity to pull a score back, and they duly did so when James
Dawson found David Gowers on an 18 yard pass play, the defence stifled out the two point conversion and the score was now 14-6.

The Exiles again scored on the next drive though, Alan Hands with a 45 yard run deep into Sabres territory set up Stewart Muir's 4 yard burst, both backs were to finish the day with over 100 yards rushing. Tompsett again hit the extra point and the score now stood at 21-6.

With the game effectively sealed the Exiles turned to their younger players to
see out the game in the fourth quarter, the young defence allowed one more
Sabres score when Greg Crease ran in from 4 yards out to make the score 21-12, but then young Exiles quarterback Simon Mackerill sealed a fine first start by running the ball in from 39 yards out, the extra point was again tacked on by Tompsett and the Exiles had the final score in a 28-12 victory.

"It was another good win for us today" commented Exiles head coach Phil Wood, "we tried out some new things, and got a lot of our younger players into the rotation today. I was especially pleased with Simon Mackerills performance, in his first ever start he led the team well and spotted some weaknesses in the Sabres which he took full advantage of."

The 5-1 record marks the Exiles first non-losing season since 1998, "it's been a big step for us to start winning games again" commented Ted Smith, the Exiles offensive coach, "but we're not resting on our laurels, we know we need to keep winning to get ourselves into the playoffs for the first time, and nobody's going to help us get there but ourselves".

The Exiles now face the Chiltern Cheetahs in a crunch game on Sunday, the Exiles ran out 14-13 winners in a nail biting encounter earlier in the season, and the Cheetahs will be keen to turn that around as the home team this time.
