20th April - Sussex Thunder 8 - 18 Chiltern Cheetahs    (H/T 0 - 12)


The Cheetahs travelled to Sussex to take on the reformed Thunder on Sunday after a disappointing result at Essex last week.  Sussex won the toss and Chiltern received the ball. The offence quickly move the ball on Deniz Karagulle's 45 pass to Darren Shepsmen and runs by Abdul Lawal and Andy Crowther, with Crowther opening the scoring on a 6 yard run, Ben Dunmore saw his extra point kick was blocked (0-6).
On Sussex's opening drive, Quarterback Paul Robinson got his side into scoring range, but the Cheetahs defence held strong on a fourth a goal give the offence the ball back on 5 yard line. Chilterns offence moved the ball gradually down the field on 16 plays and 85 yards ending in score for Darren Shepsman on a 6 yard run for his first senior points. The 2 point conversation failed giving the Cheetahs a 12 - 0 lead at the end on the 1st quarter.  Solid Defence again from the cheetahs prevented further drives for the Thunder in the 2nd Quarter with Nick Larkins intercepting a Robinson pass in the end zone.
Two plays into the 3rd Quarter, Chiltern's Darron Mayhew recovered a Sussex fumble and on the next play Darren Shepsman run 55 yards for his second touchdown of the game. Again the extra point failed (0 - 18).  Sussex came back late in the quarter and scored on Paul Robinson's 25 yard pass to Dayle Kirby, and with the 2 point conversation failing Chiltern's lead was down to 12. On the next drive the game was delayed when Chiltern's Owen Thomas injury was dealt with, and his will now be out for the season after an excellent 1st half recording 9 tackles and 1 assist.
In the 4th quarter, Sussex continued to drive the ball with more confidence after scoring but where held again by Chiltern defence on a 4th and goal on the 1 yard line.
Only to score on the next play with Linebacker Adrian Teague tacking Andy Crowther in the end zone foe a safety (8 - 18).  The nearest either side came to scoring after that was very late in the game as Chiltern's Adbul Lawal was stopped on the 1 yard line after an 11 yard gain.
