Stanton, Dave – Year of
induction: 2005
A great British QB who had fantastic vision and
was also cool under pressure. Stanton was a star QB of the Birmingham
Bulls in the early 1980’s, leading the Bulls to the 1986
Summerbowl title. He also QB’d the Bulls in the first
Eurobowl competition and picked up three caps for the GB Lions (1985 to
1987). With the influx of American QB’s to the game (Russ
Jensen joined the Bulls in 1988), Stanton moved to the Redditch Arrows
at the start of the 1989 season s Head Coach and Quarterback for the
club. It is widely believed that this event turned out to be the most
significant in the clubs history. Dave's personality and
style was perfect for the Arrows philosophy and attitude and it soon
became apparent that it was a match made in heaven. Stanton continued
to coach and play for the Arrows for 15 years, playing his final game
for the club in August 2004.
