Since then they have played most seasons, and have only been beaten on a handful of occasions.
In 2006, the Bulldogs again entertained Team Canada and won by a convincing 33-14 scoreline before embarking on a 2 game tour of California. After landing, the Bulldogs had to prepare for the first game two days later against Whittier College. Obviously staying at UCLA, one of the biggest and most well equipped universities in the USA, had provided the Bulldogs with all the preparation they needed as they fought out a hard hitting game against a physically stronger team and reaped the rewards of a 7-7 draw, which is the best result the Bulldogs have ever had on US soil!
After greatly impressing all visiting coaches and the result of the previous week the Bulldogs went into their second match of the tour, against the Claremont College Stags filled with confidence. This confidence, however, was unjustified as at half time they were losing 42-0 and were about to be on the wrong end of a cricket score. The second half proved to be a more balanced affair as the GB defence hardened up. Final score was Claremont 56 – Bulldogs 0 In 2005, the Bulldogs defeated Team Canada 23-12, and

14yd run, #2 1xpt (0-14); GB: #32 5yd run (0-20). REPORT: The Ireland team lost its second game of the year with a 6-69 defeat at the hands of the Great Britain Bulldogs in Derby, England. The Bulldogs, who are due to play an official NCAA game against Menlo College (California) in a few days time, looked particularly sharp as they prepare to be the first ever British team to play in a game that counts towards the College Football National Championship in the USA. A lot of observers believed that they looked even better than the John Carroll team that played against Ireland in the Celtic Classic. However, the fixture did provide the Ireland team with a chance to debut a number of young and promising players who may be with the National Program for a number of years to come. Shamrock Bowl finalists, Dublin Rebels and Carrickfergus Knights only supplied one player each for this fixture due to the proximity of the national championship game, so the bulk of the Irish team for this fixture came from the Cork Admirals and Dublin Dragons. The Bulldogs got of to a quick start, scoring 41 unanswered points before Dublin Dragons running back, Dave Wheeler responded for Ireland with a 7 yard touchdown run. The Bulldogs, who kitted up 65 players as opposed to Irelands 30, had the advantage of rotating in fresh players practically every series. The Ireland team got into the game more as they got used to the high tempo, but not sufficient enough to get more scores on the scoreboard. There were good individual performances from many Irish players. Dave Wheeler of the Dublin Dragons was the Irish MVP, running for several first downs in spite of taking a lot of punishing hits. Alan O'Carroll, Jari Kinnunen, Ciaran O'Sullivan (all Cork Admirals), Chris Mikhael (Belfast Bulls) Eoin Walsh (Dublin Dragons) who had an interception, and Simon Connellan (Dublin Rebels) played well on defense. Robert Olwill of the Dragons started at quarterback. The line included John Collins, Alan Connolly (both Dublin Dragons), Robert Smith, James Lordan and 17 year old Glen Baker (all Cork Admirals). Charlie Wilson of the Bristol Aztecs, Tim Doyle of the Kent Exiles and Chris Cunnane of theBirmingham Bulls were the best of the four overseas based players who made their Irish debuts.

(USA) 27-16 GB Bulldogs GB Bulldogs 2000 In 2000, the Bulldogs played three matches. They defeated a Combined All-Star Team (made up largely of players from the Yorkshire Rams) 39-13, and then defeated the Danish Universities 21-14, This year proved a first for the Bulldogs as they took on and beat the English National side 10-7 in a controlled scrimmage (see match report below). By their continued success at such a high level, the Bulldogs have clearly shown that they are one of the best sides in all of British American football, able to compete with the top senior teams in the country. GB Bulldogs 39-13 Combined AllStar Team England National Team 7-10 Great Britain Bulldogs With no referees available, England and the Bulldogs decided to hold a controlled scrimmage, the officials consisted of an impartial referee (an American ex-player and coach) aided by a neutral coach and 3 of the England coaching staff. The Bulldogs took the opening drive all the way to the endzone, Richard Marshall running in from the 20 yard line. Dan Storey’s PAT kick was good, to put the Collegiate team into a 7 - 0 lead. Both teams showed good Defensive work throughout the rest of the first half and there was no more scoring until the 3rd Quarter. England Wide Receiver Andy Falconer caught a 17 yard Touchdown pass from Wayne Mayers almost unchallenged. Steve Belcher converted the PAT kick to level the score at 7 - 7. The GB Bulldogs got the best of this encounter when Dan Storey successfully attempted a 28 yard Field Goal, just before the final 2 minutes, to give them a 10 - 7 advantage. England tried to drive the ball into scoring range from their own 20 yard line but were beaten by the clock. GB Bulldogs 1998 In 1998, the Bulldogs toured Holland and Germany and played the second European Championship. GB 6 Team Canada 0 GB Bulldogs 1996 In 1996 the Bulldogs had an abbreviated season consisting of only two games, against the Oregon All-Star team and against the Cambridge Cats, now a BAFA Senior League Division-One team. The scores were: GB Bulldogs 20 Oregon All-Stars 38 The victory over the Cambridge Cats was the first ever by a BCAFL
team over a BAFA Senior League Division-One team. Two awards were given at the end of the
Bulldogs' 1996 season: GB Bulldogs 1995 In 1995 the Bulldogs again represented BCAFL against a variety of opponents. They played five games, again defeating the Oregon All-Star team, a BAFA Senior League Division-Two team, and the defending Irish senior league national champions, the Dublin Tornadoes. The Bulldogs' first two losses ever came to the BAFA Senior League Division-One Leicester Panthers and the BAFA Senior League Division-Two national champions, the Cambridge Cats. The scores were: GB Bulldogs 15 Oregon All-Stars 6 The following players were recognised for their contributions to the
1995 Bulldogs: GB Bulldogs 1994 Following the end of the 1993-94 BCAFL season, the Bulldogs were formed as the first official Great Britain student team with a recognised affiliation from the British Collegiate American Football League. Organised by general manager Nick Baldwin and head coach Beau Riffenburgh, the team won all six games it played, one against a travelling American all-star team, two against BAFA Senior League Division-Three teams, and three against German teams. The scores were: GB Bulldogs 14 Oregon All-Stars 8 The game against the German National Student Team was the championship game of the first-ever European Student Championships, an event suggested by representatives of the National Football League. The Bulldogs received a trophy, donated by the NFL, recognising them as the European Student Champions. Individual trophies were awarded to the following players for their
play with the 1994 Bulldogs: BCAFL Select "All Stars" 1993 In 1993 a travelling university all-star team was formed under the direction of Damian Bayford, the head coach at the University of Leeds. This team included several non-British players and defeated three German college teams whilst on tour. |
