Team Notes (from http://www.teamsurge.com/): The club is a member of the British American Football Association and play in
Division 1A of the British Senior League. The club represents
Staffordshire and Derbyshire but also draws players from all over the Midlands and
Cheshire.
Staffordshire Surge were formed in 1994 as the successor to the Stoke Spitfires, who had
been in existence since 1985. 6 of the former Spitfires played for the
Chester Romans the following year and this positive experience ignited the ex-Spitfires
enthusiasm to start a new team in Staffordshire.

QB Richard Large, 1994
With the addition of former players of the Crewe Refugees, training started in January
1994. With an initial squad of 25 the newly named "Staffordshire
Surge" were accepted into the British Senior League in Division IV for the inaugural
season. Paul Sherratt was announced as their head coach for the 2000 season.
Although never winning the National League, the club have always had a winning record
competing in the playoffs in 8 of the last 10 seasons. We have also
provided players for the Great Britain National Team at both senior and college level.
2004 saw the Surge getting to the semi-finals before losing to the eventual Division 1A
champions, the Southern Sundevils .
