Merseyside Centurions take on the Preston Pirates in 1988

Team notes: Established in February 1986; sister club of the Fylde Falcons; played on astroturf; The Pirates were coached by Dave Anthony, a Canadian, who had formerly coached and played with the Fylde Falcons. The manager of the team was Steve Darwen and their finest hour was the 1989 conference title they won when beating Chester Romans at Deepdale, the home of Preston North End, on the astroturf the same day that Mrs Darwen delivered her first child. A great night had by all apparantly. The Pirates finished with a 0-10 record in 1990 and then folded during 1990 due to a lack of players. Most of the players packed up or went to a variety of teams namely the Fylde Falcons, Lancaster Bombers, Lancashire Prairiedogs and ultimately most ended up if they kept playing with the Lancashire Wolverines who were themselves an amalgamation of the Wigan Wolverines and the Lancashire Chieftains.
