1986 JAFFA Western Conference - record unknown

Team Notes: Competed in the JAFFA North Western Youth Two Touch league in 1986. Their full record is unknown. Reached the semi-finals in 1986, where they lost 67-0 to the eventual champions, Leeds Cougars.

"Originally a team started by 2 brothers Mike and Dave Astle (their older brother Mark would have been coach) and played at Redsands in Ormskirk, as we became a full sized squad we applied to the council and were moved to our own pitch at Aughton Green. In our first season (1986) we only lost to the L8 Raiders in the league and the Leeds Cougars in the regional semi finals (in fact they were the only games we ever lost). The captains were Mike Astle (QB) on offence and Dave Foot (MLB) on defense. We moved to the rugby club in Southport the following season where we were joined by a number of the L8 raiders who had folded and went on to be unbeaten that year. We were also sponsored by a local paint company. Mike Astle went on to play QB for one of the Manchester teams and I believe was very successfull, I returned to rugby union.

Of note this was a junior team only and was not affiliated to any seniors, all the plays and coaching really came from the players themselves, and we had great success - apart from against Leeds, where the gulf was very obvious. "
