1991 BNGL First Division Northern Conference 1-8-1
1990 BNGL First Division North West Conference 2-8-0
Team
Notes: Coached by Cal Rolfe, the Prairie
Dogs played in the BNGL in 1990 and 1991. None of the
players had any experience of American Football whatsoever. The League
asked them to play three
friendlies to prove that they
were up to it. Their
first friendly was away against the Conference Champions, Wigan
Wolverines, they held
them 6-6 until the final minute, eventually losing 12-6. Not bad for a
first game !! They went
on to beat Lancaster 6-0 away in another friendly and go onto play the third friendly. The squad ranged between 25 and 35
players and money was always tight. They
initially played on The Prairie on the Northern outskirts of Burnley,
hence the wonderful Burnley Prairie Dogs name.
They were highly rated by the Referees, all of whom said how much they enjoyed reffing
their games.
None of their players
ever questioned decisions and they were highly disciplined. If any
player ever stepped out of line they were immediately withdrawn from
the field, if they wanted the playing time they had to behave......
