181. Basildon 12-18 Crawley Raiders, 7th August 1994. Crawley led 12-0, but Basildon pulled the scores level in this Div.3 quarter-final. Gus Romain scored the decisive TD from 1 yard with 4 minutes left, and the Raiders D held off a determined Basildon attack. Match report.

Leicester Panthers 10-6 Milton Keynes Pioneers, 25th August 1996. A momentous day for the Panthers as they won their first national championship in 13 years of trying, in what turned out to be the last competitive game of the franchise’s history. Tiggy Bell ran for 85 yards on 24 carries, and Craig Broughton scored the TD that gave the Panthers the lead. Rex Harrison’s field goal a slender advantage to the Panthers in a brutal match that they hung onto win. Match report.


 

183. GB Spartans 50-44 Amsterdam Crusaders, FLE,19th June 1994

Victor Ebubedike ran for 215 yards on 30 carries and scored 2 TDs, as the Spartans outscored the Crusaders 43-8 between the 2nd and 3rd quarters! The Spartans cruised out into a 50-29 lead, and a couple of late TD’s closed the gap in a great display of offense by both sides. Match report

184. Herts Phantoms 48-34 Ipswich Cardinals, 28th August 1988. Terry Lee ran for a final record of 363 yards and 5TD’s, but the Cardinals were still only adrift by a score with just over 3 minutes to go. Parkin’s interception for the Phantoms sealed the Budweiser Division One title in this 80 point thriller. Match report


185. Birmingham Bulls 13-14 London Olympians, 30th April 1995 Eurobowl. Leroy Innis’s 17 yard TD catch on 4th and 16 gave the Olympians a 7-6 lead, but the Bulls took a 13-7 lead on Rigg’s bomb late in the first half. Dunkley gave the Olympians the win with the go-ahead score in the 3rd quarter, and despite Colin Nash’s late interception for the Bulls, the O’s hung on for the win. Match report

 


186. London Capitals 22-28 Brighton B-52s, 1988. The B-52s clinched a fantastic victory over the fancied London Capitals on the back of a strong performance from QB Chaz Jasicki. No match report


 


187. Birmingham Bulls 23-2 Glasgow Lions, Summerbowl II, 1986. Lloyd Queen returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for a TD, and Richard Meanwell booted a 54 yard field goal as the Bulls won their first national title. Match report to be added shortly.


 


188. Leicester Panthers 18-32 Birmingham Bulls, 1986 Eurobowl. At a snowy Saffron Lane Stadium, the Bulls triumphed in this Eurobowl I qualifier –the first meeting between two English sides in a European competition. No match report


 


189. Dublin Celts 13-18 Manchester Heroes, 1989. The Heroes squeezed through this CGL Duke Premier Division quarter-final in Dublin with a late TD, and then held of a determined Celts charge in the final minutes. No match report.


 


190. Dusseldorf Panthers 21-14 London Olympians, 8th July 1995. Eurobowl Final. Estrus Crayton (formerly of the University of Southern California) scored 2 TDs and then intercepted Leonard Valentine’s hail mary pass in the final seconds as the Olympians were thwarted in their attempt to win a Eurobowl three peat. Richard Dunkley ran for 117 yards and was named MVP. Match report
