151. Sussex Thunder 26-24 Birmingham Bulls, BSL Div.1 Semi-Final, 16th August 1998



 


Anthony Stitt ran for 179 yards and a TD as the Thunder reached their first British final with a tight victory. Thunder led 13-12 at half-time, and second half TDs from Stitt and Ashby gave them a 26-12 lead. Late Bulls TDs from Hashim and Cohen closed the gap but the Thunder held on. Match report.


 


152. Bristol Aztecs 13-12 PA Knights, BSL Division Two Semi-Final, 31st August 1997



 


In this semi-final, the lead changed hands three times, with the Aztecs clinching the win inside the last three minutes on  QB Kevin Lupton’s 26 yard TD pass to Clayton Best. The Knights had a last gasp attempt to win the game, but after a 60 yard drive they fumbled and lost possession. Match report.


 


153. Ipswich Cardinals 26-28 St Helens Cardinals, UKAFL Final, 11th October 1987



 


In the battle of the Cardinals at Alexandra Stadium, it was St.Helens who held their nerve to prevail in the tightest of games. Match report to follow.

In a thrilling semi-final, the Admirals Bob McCarthy snared his third interception in the last minute to end the Panthers hopes of a Bowl berth, and secure victory for the Admirals. Match report


 
155. Southern Seminoles 35-30 Bristol Aztecs, 8th May 1994. BAFA Division Two.


 


Jon Williams scored a hat-trick of receiving TDs including a 91yarder as the Seminoles built up a 29-12 lead. Bristol pulled the scores to 35-30, and got the ball back in the dying minutes, but the Seminoles D held firm to preserve the win. Match report


 


156. PA Knights 18-13 Oxford Saints, 16th August 2000. WR Jon Williams caught the game winning TD with less than 2 minutes remaining to send the Knights to just their second bowl game in their history. Match report


 


157. London Blitz 27-24 Southern Sundevils, 2006. Sundevils leaped out to an early 14-0, and held a lead of 21-10 in the third quarter. Blitz narrowed the gap with a score, but a Sundevils field goal opened a 24-16 lead in the third quarter. The Blitz closed to 24-22, and Tom Britton’s 2 PAT leveled the scores. An inspired Blitz march downfield, and with 2 minutes remaining Duncan Aldous kicked the game winning 31 yard field goal. Match report


 


158. Severn Vale Royals 27-26 Cardiff, 1991


 


Severn Vale scored a TD from 18 yards with less than 2 minutes to go to secure the win. No match report


 


159. Oxford Saints 28-28 London Blitz, 1995.


 


The Saints and the Blitz split 56 points right down the middle in  one of the highest scoring tied games of alltime. No match report.


 


160. Manchester Spartans 36-34 Leeds Cougars, 1985


 


In an eagerly awaited cross Pennine tussle, the Spartans QB TJ Johnson through for 4 scores in this shoot-out with their great rivals. No match report
